With a computer science degree and experience as a project leader from some of the world’s largest and most recognizable brands (including Amazon, Marriott, and PNC Bank) Ola Alabi is helping to transform how Altum delivers software.
She’s the Technical Scrum Master — responsible for ensuring the product team lives agile values and follows the processes and practices that the team agreed they would use. In her role, she helps clear obstacles and coaches the team on agile principles so that developers can do their best work and deliver software on time and in quality.
August 2021 marks her 1-year anniversary with the company. In that period, she’s helped drive improvements in time to market and delivery quality. Under her tutelage, the Altum development organization has embraced an ‘agile mindset’ and adopted the Scrum framework.
What are agile principles, you ask? “Commitment, focus, openness, respect, and courage,” Ola answers. Agile principles put an emphasis on teamwork and continuous improvement. Scrum both creates those values and relies on them.
“I coach teams to value agile principles and how to effectively respond to change. Eventually most of the teams I coach become self-sufficient teams.”
When asked what she likes most about working at Altum, Ola said: “I love being in an environment where people are excited to learn. And the growth that comes through that learning experience.”
Beyond her academic and professional accomplishments, Ola is also a former collegiate hurdler who now coaches kids in track and field. “If you can coach kids, you can coach anybody” Ola says. “It teaches how to be attentive and really listen.”
We’re lucky to have this track and field star now leading “sprints” at Altum.
