Altum Insights for Research Funders

Built on 20 years of experience working with hundreds of research funders, Altum Insights visualizes the connections between programs, grants, publications, and follow-on funding across the entire funding lifecycle. Research professionals can determine how much has been funded in each area of focus, which programs or publications are linked to each award, and all points of impact that resulted from their funding.

“With Altum Insights, grant makers and institutions can clearly see their impact and more easily communicate outcomes to their board, donors and constituents — furthering their ability to attract funding to continue their mission,” said Steve Pinchotti, CEO of Altum.

With native integration to ProposalCentral plus dozens of external information sources, publications and preprints, Altum Insights comes connected to more than 170 million data points. You can expand and tailor the data set by easily linking your organization’s entire history of applications, peer reviews, and deliverables to relevant industry data sets. Cloud-hosted and purpose-built to manage large data sets, Altum Insights is designed to scale as new data sets are integrated.

Elevate your understanding of funding Impact: Clearly illustrate the impact of your programs to your board, donors, and constituents so you can continue to attract funding to further your mission. See how your funding contributes to new knowledge and the impact and outcomes of your grantees long after the award. Altum Insights maps the connections between disparate data sources to illuminate the path from grants and grantees to discovery or impact.

Understand what is happening earlier in the funding lifecycle: Traditional research search engines are limited to published works and award data and can only show you what has happened after the fact. Altum Insights includes unmatched depth and breadth of proposal and application data, enabling the user to discern what is going on early in a research area of interest.

See all the connections to your grants: Visualize the network of relationships between programs, grants, publications, and follow-on funding across more than 170 million data points. Altum Insights leverages persistent identifiers and connections to industry data standard providers like ORCID, ROR, and CrossRef, to establish connections cross disparate information sources quickly.

Identify and act on new opportunities: Develop new levels of understanding around funding impact and identify ‘big bang’ areas that could explode with interest based on trends in the research.

“Insights has allowed us to make connections across our portfolio that we did not think were possible. The ability to visualize outcomes is transforming our grant making process and how we report results to our board and donor community,” said Becky Weaver, Chief Mission Officer, St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Altum Analytics for Research Funders

Altum Analytics is a cloud-hosted reporting platform that comes with predefined dashboards to explore your ProposalCentral funding data and make more informed decisions. The solution includes over 100 reports to support executive leadership, scientists, and grants managers. Altum Analytics lets users explore data, uncover hidden insights, and make more data-driven decisions. The tool aggregates and summarizes all your grants data, shows where program dollars are being invested, and quantifies and visualizes the outcomes associated with awards.

“Every day, volumes of information are created, and high-performing funding teams need analytics to cut through the noise and make sense of it all. Altum Analytics helps grant making teams turn data into information and information into understanding,” Mr. Pinchotti said.

Put funding performance at your fingertips: Predefined dashboards provide visibility into grant making performance, helping funders make better decisions daily. Packaged analytics empower grant makers to understand where, on what, and with whom they are investing grant dollars.

Become a more data-driven funding organization: Intuitive UI lets users explore data, uncover hidden insights, and make more data-driven decisions. Search and explore across all your data in any direction and instantly pivot your thinking based on what you see.

Altum Analytics Plus provides additional dashboards and reports including benchmarking data to compare your organization’s impact against anonymous peers, as well as a diversity dashboard to assess the diversity of your awardees versus similar organizations. In addition, Altum Analytics Plus provides the ability to create, edit, and publish custom reports.
