ORCID Deftly Balances Openness and Data Integrity

As ORCID approaches the fifth anniversary of its Trust Program, the team has published a series of blog posts that outline ORCID’s thinking around how to balance the sometimes-competing priorities of researcher control and data quality, while adhering to its values of openness, trust and inclusivity. We found this initial post in the series to be a fascinating read and applaud ORCID’s commitment to openness and data integrity.

As a single platform shared by funders, researchers, and research institutions, ProposalCentral enables seamless, collaborative, and open interaction. ORCID is a powerful enabler within ProposalCentral, simplifying the research application and management process for the researcher and providing a powerful tool for funders to assess their impact.

ProposalCentral leverages ORCID’s authenticated workflows connecting ORCID to ProposalCentral for researchers interacting with funders as applicants and grantees. Once established, the ORCID connection eliminates repetitive data entry for the researcher.

The goal of ORCID is enabling transparent and trustworthy connections between researchers, their contributions, and their affiliations. And the vision of ORCID is a world where all who participate in research, scholarship, and innovation are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions across disciplines, borders, and time. For that to occur, “trust” is the linchpin.

Did you know? In June 2020, Altum’s ProposalCentral was recognized by ORCID as the first certified funder platform.
